This is eBill

Financial services are becoming increasingly digital, including the creation and settlement of invoices. eBill, the initiative launched by SIX Group in 2018 on behalf of the Swiss financial center, makes invoices accessible digitally and facilitates the settlement of receivables. Numerous invoice issuers (e.g. large companies, SMEs, public administration) offer this digital payment method.

The benefits of eBill

eBill digitalizes your invoicing: As a user, you receive and pay your bills directly in your online banking. Quick accessibility and numerous other advantages have led to eBill becoming established as the digital invoicing standard throughout Switzerland. 3.5 million users in Switzerland (as of the end of November 2024) use electronic invoicing. At ۶Ƶ, 1.5 million clients receive their digital invoices directly in their ۶Ƶ Digital Banking or in the ۶Ƶ Mobile Banking App.

How eBill works

With eBill, you no longer receive your invoices by mail or email but access them directly in your E-Banking or via your Mobile Banking App.

If you are not yet using eBill, as a ۶Ƶ client you can register for eBill directly in ۶Ƶ E-Banking or the ۶Ƶ Mobile Banking App. Here you also have the opportunity to change the settings to suit your preferences.

Registration and setup

In just a few steps, you can set up eBill in ۶Ƶ Digital Banking and customize it to your needs.

Register

Click on “Settings” in the top right corner, then via “Overview” to “eBill invoices” and then click on “Register for eBill”. Complete your registration by following the process steps shown.

Add billers

To benefit from eBill, your creditors must offer eBill. This is now the case with virtually all large Swiss companies and SMEs. Under the eBill settings in your Digital Banking or in the ۶Ƶ Mobile Banking App, you will find the companies which allow you to pay via eBill and can easily add them as eBill billers.

Automatically add biller

If you want to shorten the search, you can activate the function under “Settings” to have companies send you invoices automatically via eBill. This way, your creditors also know that you prefer invoices as eBill, and you no longer need to add them manually. Automatic registration with the billers is the default setting. Additionally, you can enable the function to be given the option to switch to eBill for future invoices from the respective invoicing party when paying invoices using other payment methods.

Receive, review and pay invoices

By registering and setting up your personal preferences for the first time, you have already become familiar with eBill. You can now further customize your eBill.

Approve or reject eBill invoices

You will automatically receive each eBill invoice for review. With just a few clicks, you can either approve or reject a payment. You also have the option to choose when and with which account (if you have multiple) the transfer should be executed.

Activate standing approval for payments

You can complete your eBill transactions even faster by enabling the function in your invoice issuer directory so that recurring invoices, such as your monthly health insurance invoice, are paid automatically. Alternatively, this is also possible directly via the eBill you receive. For each activated eBill invoice issuer, you can decide on the maximum amount or an exact amount and the valid period. You can find your eBill invoices at any time under “Documents” in your Digital Banking. You can also view paid invoices under “Executed payments”.

Enable notifications

If you enable notifications for eBill, you will be notified via push notification, SMS or email as soon as you receive a new eBill invoice in your inbox. This also applies to eBill invoices that are automatically paid by standing approval.

eBill Sharing: manage invoices together

When traveling or in emergencies, it can be useful to give others access to your eBill mailbox. eBill Sharing lets you grant access to people you choose. They can then view, accept or reject your invoices, reminders, or credit notes, and download attached enclosures.

eBill Sharing is also practical for people in the same household or if you want to help family members settle bills, for example. eBill Sharing also works across banks.

Conclusion

eBill, the “digital invoice for Switzerland”, has fundamentally simplified and digitalized the processing of invoices in Switzerland. It was launched in 2018 by SIX Group on behalf of the Swiss financial center. In the meantime, approximately 3.5 million users have come to appreciate electronic invoice processing directly in their E-Banking or Mobile Banking. Approximately 95% of Swiss financial institutions support eBill, and numerous Switzerland-based billers, from large companies to SMEs to public administration, offer eBill.
