Finance is driven by people, purpose and passion
Magda, a Financial Controller and Team Leader at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ, believes that finance is more than just numbers - it’s about people, purpose, and passion. From her early days, studying Finance and Accounting to leading teams across Europe, Magda’s journey is one of curiosity, courage, and continuous growth.
Let’s start with your story - what led you into finance?
I actually considered studying construction at one point. But ultimately, I chose Finance and Accounting, completing both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, with a focus on Financial Audit. That decision set me on a path that started with an internship and led to a Financial Accountant role at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ. Then, I moved into a Financial Analyst role and became a Financial Controller and Team Leader in March 2022. Today, I support Wealth Management and Asset Management in Germany, and assist with matters across Germany, Italy, France, and Luxembourg.
What kind of background sets someone up for success in this field?
A degree in Finance and Accounting is a great start, but what really matters is a willingness to learn. The field is constantly evolving, and staying curious is key.
What’s your day-to-day like?
Each day kicks off with reviewing emails and setting priorities. Depending on the time of the month, I might be focused on weekly or monthly reporting, month-end closing activities, or diving into ad-hoc queries. The variety keeps things fresh - there’s always something unexpected to solve, and that’s what makes the role so exciting. I’m constantly learning, and never bored.
Is there a common myth about your role you’d like to bust?
That Financial Controllers just crunch numbers. But that’s not true! We work closely with multiple business divisions and assist in strategic planning and decision-making. It’s a role that requires both analytical skills and strong collaboration.
What’s been your proudest moment in finance?
Becoming a Team Leader. It was a recognition of my work and a chance to support others in their growth. I’m proud of the impact I’ve had and the trust placed in me.
What makes ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ a great place to grow your career?
The people. Whether it’s my team or colleagues from other business areas, everyone is supportive and willing to share knowledge. It’s a collaborative environment that encourages learning and development. Additionally, in my team we are increasingly using AI technologies to streamline operations, reduce manual work, and enhance decision-making. This has been an exciting learning opportunity with AI tools becoming a valuable part of our routine and ultimately making our work more impactful.

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
Sport is a huge part of my life. I used to play handball and now I follow tennis, Formula 1, football, and even darts. In summer, I love wakeboarding and cycling. I also enjoy trying new things, traveling - Italy holds a special place in my heart and eating good food.
Can you share a project that’s been meaningful to you?
It’s not work-related, but ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ gives us opportunities to make a bigger impact. One initiative I’m proud to be part of is the Noble Box, where we come together to support families in need. Seeing people unite to brighten someone else’s life is incredibly motivating.
Any advice for someone thinking about a career in finance?
Give it a try. Don’t be afraid of change. Take opportunities when they arise. Finance has so much to offer, and it’s a field where you can grow in many directions.
