Summary

The change in wealth per adult is a better guide to the relative performances of different markets, and Figure 4 reports the biggest gains and losses according to this criterion. While average wealth rose in Singapore and Norway by more than USD 20,000, these increases are modest in comparison to losses exceeding USD 40,000 in the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. Each of these countries had previously experienced wealth growth in 2021, apart from the Netherlands. These reductions refer to nominal US dollars. In real terms, mean wealth fell by another 5.8%, so that the
real losses in Denmark, the United States and Switzerland exceeded USD 50,000, the real losses in Canada and the Netherlands were above USD 60,000 and the real losses in
Australia, New Zealand and Sweden were more than USD 80,000.
