What makes the ideal location

A good location depends on general criteria, such as the amount of street noise or an unobstructed view, and on your individual life circumstances, both now and in the future. Depending on your stage in life, proximity to schools and leisure activities for your children, access to good medical care in the local area or closeness to your friends and place of work might be especially important.

Locations that are considered attractive by the majority of the population have a strong impact on the price of a plot and thus of a property. A low tax burden in a municipality also makes the land more expensive, though this will be outweighed by the financial advantages in the longer term.

Checklist for your dream property

We advise that you draw up a checklist to help you determine which factors matter most to you when it comes to choosing a location and a property as a whole. You should consider the following points, among others:

  • The distance to relevant locations such as your place of work, daycare, kindergartens and schools
  • Public and private transportation
  • Infrastructure such as shopping and healthcare facilities – from drugstores, doctors' and dental practices and hospitals to post offices, banks, and sports and cultural amenities
  • The view, amount of sunlight, noise and other emissions, as well as risks posed by natural events such as floods or avalanches
  • The tax burden, health insurance premiums and electricity prices
  • The economic strength of the region and employment prospects
  • Trends in property prices, population development and construction activity
